SIKKIM Sikkim is among India's smallest state situated between Nepal and Bhutan. The capital, Gangtok, 'the hill made flat' lies at an altitude of 5400 feet, facing Kanchenjunga, the third highest summit in the world. It is reached easily form Darjeeling, Bagdogra airport or Siliguri. The most important place (building) in Gangtok is in the southern part of the city; the Chogyal's Palace usually closed to visitors. For many years, Sikkim was regarded as one of the last 'Shangrilas' in the Himalayan region because of it's remoteness, it's spectacular mountain terrain, varied flora & fauna and it's ancient Buddhist monasteries. Trekking in this Kingdom is a superb introduction to the Himalayas. In this trek, exploratory options to the head of the Rathong (6679m), Kabru (7371m) & Kabru Dome (6600m) and a challenging trek to the Guicha La (4940m.) to view the huge south-east ridge of Kanchenjunga.
