Langtang, Gosainkunda, Helambu Trekking The
trekking most accessible to Kathmandu is in Langtang, Gosainkund and Helambu,
all north of the capital city. There are trails linking the three regions, and
as many can be visited as time and condition permits. The minimum time for a
brief visit is a week. Two weeks would allow you to combine the two regions, and
in three weeks you could enjoy the entire area. If your time is limited and you
can not go far from the Kathmandu valley the Helambu trek takes you to the
Sherpa area where you can see how the Buddhist people differ from their lowland
neighbors. The trek does not go above 3000 m. The two main villages of Helambu
are Tarkegyang and Shermathang. Spectacular views of the mountains are only to
be found if you go higher up to Tarepati. During the Rana regime in Nepal
Helambu region was well know for its beautiful Sherpa girls many of whom worked
for aristocratic Rana families. Gosainkunda One of the most famous
religious places of pilgrimage of Nepal is Gosainkunda. This is a noted Langtang
/ Helambu / Gosainkunda Pass: 13 Days
